TV studio, week 3

Week 3:

Today we sorted out roles. We started talking about what roles people wanted to do in the workshop session and, surprise surprise, there were about 6 people missing. When it came to the afternoon session in the studio a miracle happened…..EVERYONE in the group turned up. When Bex was calling out the names of the roles you could instantly tell who had been to every session and who hadn’t. Director, producer, PA, vision mixer, sound, floor manager, camera 3 and the two presenters had been chosen and everyone doing those roles were comfortable with them. When Bex read out the other roles the room just went silent really, because the people had just turned up today they had no idea if they were good at the roles because they hadn’t practised, so there was a lot of unsure hands going up. But we got there in the end.

Roles:

Director: Dale Drive

Producer: Charley Deakin

PA: Thomas Longstaff

Vision Mixer: Shelley Phillips

Sound: Myroslava Terlecky

Floor Manager: Claire Wallis

Camera

1: Paige Thomas

2: Nicola Smyth

3: Andrei Manta

VT/AUTOCUE/GRAPHICS: Ryan Roche

Presenter

1: Andrew Daley

2: James Poole

Set/Lighting: Claire Wallis

Over the past 3 weeks we have been working through a 3 minute and a 5 minute script. Unfortunately I am unable to upload the PDF but I am able to copy the content of the script.

3 minute script:

(00:00) – Titles in 10
(00:10) – Studio in 10
(00:20) – Studio Live – Presenter’s intro – Item 1 in 10
(00:30) – Item 1
(01:00) – VT in 30
(01:10) – VT in 20
(01:20) – VT in 10
(01:30) – VT Live – Studio in 30
(01:40) – Studio in 20
(01:50) – Studio in 10
(02:00) – Studio Live – Item 2

(02:30) – Outro in 10
(02:40) – Outro – Credits in 10
(02:50) – Credits
(03:00) – End

This 3 minute script was very easy & was just put together for all of us to get the hang of working in the studio, so a 5 minute script was created.

  1. Great post and I admire the honesty of the post. People not turning up or bothering to engage has a knock on effect, especially in group projects. In fact, I see it as quite a selfish act by those involved. Quite how these people think they will get in in the real world after university is beyond me. It’s nice that you are noticing all this now in your first year, taking it on board and learning how to deal with it. Thanks for sharing this blog post with us, and I look forward to your next one.

    • Have to get used to working hard now. No one can coast through life without pulling their weight. Honesty is the best policy. Some might say that my post is rude and to be honest it is board-lining on being rude but I’m sure everyone will get this feeling of annoyance some time during their life. I am just putting my annoyance into words. Glad you liked this post
