My Poetic Eyes

I’ve enjoyed this assignment but I have found that writing poetry isn’t easy. If you have looked at my previous blog post then you will know what topic I have chosen for this assignment, if not then here is a little recap:

The topic I have chosen is Holodomor which means death my starvation. Holodomor happened in Ukraine during 1932 and 1933 and it was Stalin that ordered the famine because the Ukrainian peasants didn’t agree to his plan of collectivisation. In total around 7 million Ukrainian died but some say the number could be up to 10 million.

My Poetic Eyes:

Best kept secret

He had a plan,
They disagreed.
His plan failed,
They suffered the consequences.
He told his authorities to take their food, their livestock and their grain,
They were left with nothing.
He ordered his authorities to shoot them if they were hiding food,
They still did, they didn’t have a choice.

The authorities took the dead and put them in mass graves,
Loved ones didn’t even say goodbye,
The authorities just left their bodies to rot.

7 Million starved to death,
All because of one man
And the best kept secret in history.

BRILL! Loved the fact that you didn’t put any music in the background. Just your voice with words that relate the facts without any frills because you just can’t put any frills on a story like this.
